Today marks the day the 1st world war ended 99 years ago on 11th November 1918. Today on the 11th day of the 11th month at 11am we fell silent for 2 minutes to remember all those who fought and those who lost their lives. Over 700,000 of or British soldiers were killed out of the 6 million men sent to war.
Remembrance day also known as poppy day is observed in commonwealth nations member states since the end of the war.
What does the poppy symbolise? The poppy was inspired as the WW1 poem ‘Flanders fields’ The poppy was the 1st flower to grow in the churned up earth of the soldiers graves in Flanders, Belgium.
