As you are well aware (if you are a regular reader of our Blog for sure you will know), Guys n Dolls has been in existence for 25 years. It was my dream to own my own Salon from the day I started to train as a Hairdresser. My vision was clear, I wanted to offer not only Hair Styling, Colouring and Treatments but also the full works with Beauty on offer to my clientele and eventually adding Tanning to my Salon. My vision came true and I am very lucky now to have Guys n Dolls and my wonderful team behind me. I trained at Bexley College and I get asked regularly why I chose Dartford as my choice to open up shop. My answer is always the same, why not Dartford. Why anywhere else and would the question have been the same? It is not always the location that you chose, the location sometimes chooses you.
Dartford is full of History and over the years has changed dramatically. With the introduction of Bluewater, The Dartford Bridge and a wealth of both Primary and Secondary Schools. Dartford is alive and kicking and hustling everyday. As a child Dartford boasted a Woolworths, Marks and Spencer’s, Bejams and plenty of individual retailers on its High Street. I was always fond of Philips Toy Shop on the High Street as a child.
Not just famous for a certain dance move. . .
So if you are familiar with Dartford itself and the local Schools you will be aware that Mick Jagger was a pupil at Dartford Grammar School for Boys. He also sponsored and Named the Mick Jagger Centre for Performing Arts after himself, it hosts 2 main stages and hosts productions throughout the Year.
Keith Richards is also from Dartford and ex Strictly Come Dancing Judge Len Goodman. He also still has a Dance School here in Dartford. Mackenzie Crook from The Office and more recently Pirates of the Caribbean is a Dartford Man, born and bred in Sutton-At-Hone.
The Iron Lady herself ran to be MP in Dartford 1950 to 1951, Margaret Thatcher (love her or hate her) made her mark on Dartford during her short time before becoming the first ever Female Prime Minister in the UK.
Royal Weddings
During the 13th Century, Dartford even hosted a Royal Wedding at the Parish Church, Holy Trinity. Ok, it may have been many many moons ago but there are not many local towns that can state they have hosted a Royal Wedding.
So, your now in the know about Dartford and Guys n Dolls. It’s always informative here on the Salon floor!
Have a great weekend Guys n Dolls
